Robocode is a JCQ registered exam centre, number 20713, for AQA, WJEC Eduqas and BCS at GCSE and A Level. Open to everybody, not only our own Robocoders, and the fee is the same whoever you are.

How it works, in four steps
Choose the exam
BCS Level 1 or Level 2, or a GCSE or A Level from the lists below. Every fee is on this page, and the fee is the same whoever you are.
Book or request it at a centre
BCS is booked and paid online, and the centre emails you the date. GCSE and A Level are requested: the centre sends an invitation with the price, and paying it makes you a candidate. Entry windows are the awarding body's, so the earlier the better.
Sit it
The centre's email tells you when to arrive. Bring photo ID, black pens and anything the paper allows, such as a calculator. Phones and watches are handed in before you go in. Extra time, a reader or a separate room is arranged under JCQ rules when you book, not in exam week.
Results and certificate
Results come from the awarding body: GCSE and A Level on the results day for that series, BCS once your paper is marked. Your centre tells you, and your certificate follows from the awarding body.
BCS qualifications
One price, whoever you are. There is no members' rate and no free exam at any tier.
| Qualification | Taken after | Fee | Resit |
|---|
| BCS Level 1 Robotics Award | After Robotics Course 2 | £50 a sitting | £25 |
| BCS Level 2 Thinking as a Coder | After Robotics or Game Dev Course 4 | £50 a sitting | £25 |
There is no refund on an exam fee once the candidate is registered, because the fee is binding.
Both are on the Ofqual register and are equivalent to a GCSE in either robotics or coding.
GCSE fees
Robocode's all-in fee, with the board fee and administration included. Late and very late windows are set by the awarding body, so the earlier you tell us, the less it costs.

Combined Science: Trilogy is a double award, worth two GCSEs, which is why it costs more than a single subject.
Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Combined Science need a practical endorsement. Our Robocoders sit theirs with us through the weekday programme. A private candidate needs to carry one forward from a previous school, and we will ask for evidence of it before entering you.
Computer Science and Electronics carry our own fee rather than a board comparison, because most exam centres do not enter candidates for them at all.
A Level fees
The same centre, the same fee basis. Sciences carry the same practical condition as at GCSE.

We do not enter candidates for A Level Computer Science. It is offered by OCR only, and we are registered with AQA and WJEC Eduqas. So it would be wrong to take a booking for it. If you need it, we will say so and point you somewhere that can.

Where you can sit which exam
The list above is a guide. Each centre sets its own price and shows it before you pay. BCS is booked and paid here, and the centre emails you the date. GCSE and A Level are requested, and the centre that hosts them invites you with a price.

AQA and WJEC (Eduqas), any of their subjects on the list. The centre answers with an invitation and a price.
Request
You do not have to be a Robocoder. A private candidate or a home-educating family uses Request for GCSE and A Level, and books BCS like anyone else.

Tell us the subject and the series. We will tell you which centre can enter you, and which entry window you are in.
