What happens at a Robocode Free Tech Assessment, how long it takes, what your child builds, and how the price of classes is made up.
Every Robocoder starts the same way: one free visit, where they build and code something with a Mentor while you watch. Here are the questions parents ask us most about that visit, with plain answers.
What is a Free Tech Assessment?
It is a first visit to a Robocode centre. Your child builds and codes a first project with a Mentor, in a Studio Lab, with real kit. At the end you leave with a plan that names the right course for your child to start in.
Is it really free?
Yes. Booking takes about a minute. There is no payment and no card. There is no obligation to enrol afterwards.
How long does it take?
30, 45 or 90 minutes, depending on the centre. Your centre's page shows its own length when you choose a time.
What will my child do?
Your child builds something hands-on, with real kit, not just a screen. Robotics is eighty percent hands-on. Real building, not more screen time.
Part of the visit is a short set of puzzles on a screen. It helps the Mentor see where your child should start. It is not a test, and nobody fails.
Does my child need any experience?
No. Most Robocoders start with none. Finding the right starting point is what the visit is for.
What ages is it for?
Classes are for ages 6 to 17. When you book, you choose from the times for your child's age.
Can I watch?
Yes. Your child builds something, and you watch. It is the quickest way to see how a class runs.
What happens at the end? Do I have to sign up?
You leave with a plan that names the right course to start in. We show you the price on paper, every part of it. You can choose a class there and then, or go home and think about it. There is no obligation.
What do classes cost afterwards?
Classes are paid monthly, not per class. Your first payment is made of these parts:
- a registration fee, paid once
- the classes left in your first month, from your child's first class
- a kit, only if you choose to buy one
We show each part and the total before you pay. After the first month you pay the same amount each month. Brothers and sisters pay less each. Today's prices for every subject are on our subjects page.
At centres that are Ofsted registered, families can use Tax-Free Childcare, or claim up to 85% of childcare costs back through Universal Credit. Eligibility depends on your circumstances, and you claim it back yourself.
Leave within 14 days of paying and we refund your first month, less any classes your child has been to. The registration fee is kept. Pause or cancel with one month's notice, no fees, no minimum term.
How do I book?
- Choose your nearest centre.
- Add your child's name and age, then pick a day and a time.
- Add your details. Your place is confirmed straight away, and the email arrives at once.
If plans change, the email has a Choose another time button. It works up to 2 hours before the visit.
